Freedom party of the Netherlands — the third political force in the country — is considering a referendum on the country’s withdrawal from the European Union. In case of successful vote the Hague could raise the issue of lifting sanctions taken against Russia.
Geert Wilders, leader of Party of freedom of Netherlands: “Brussels should not dictate with whom we have economic and political relations. Restoring ties with Russia is a priority for traditionally a trading country, which has always been the Netherlands.”
According to the politician, quoted by the website of the newspaper “Izvestia”, for many centuries, Russia and the Netherlands, despite the existing conflict, only benefit from mutual cooperation.
He said that lifting of anti-Russian sanctions is a necessary condition for a prosperous future of the Netherlands. The politician said that the removal of restrictive measures with Russia is directly connected with the independence of the Netherlands. At the same time he spoke negatively about the European Union. According to him, the EU is expansionist monster that occupied territorial seizure and theft of the social system, identity and democracy.”
In June 2016, the UK held a referendum on withdrawal from the European Union. 51,9% of voters gave their voices for the Kingdom’s exit from the European Union, 48.1 percent opposed. This event was called Brexit.
