Student premiere of the musical “Sweeney Todd” in new Zealand Auckland resulted in the hospitalization of two actors, reports The New York Post on Thursday, 7 April. They were injured for real during the scene in which their characters throat.
College students Saint-Kentigern April 6 show “Sweeney Todd” to his classmates and their parents. Steve Cole, Director of the College, claims that the razor, which the main character cuts the throat of his victims, was wrapped securely with electrical tape.
“She was protected by cellophane and the other winding is completely safe. We tested it. This is a very sad accident,” explained Cole.
April 7 injured students were discharged from the hospital. Students hope to renew the show on Friday.
Sweeney Todd — the character of the London legends, a demon Barber who kills his clients. In 1979, the U.S. premiere of the musical Stephen Sondheim “Sweeney Todd: the demon Barber of fleet street”. In 2007 the musical was filmed by Tim Burton, starring role in the film was played by johnny Depp. In 2011 the Russian punk group “the king and the Clown” staged TODD.
On 15 February, the Japanese actor, Daigo Kashino died after being injured with a samurai sword at the rehearsal.
On 30 January during a performance at Theatre Lux in Pisa (Italy), playing a scene of suicide, accidentally hanged himself actor Raphael Schumacher. The actor pulled out of the loop thanks to the vigilance of one of the spectators with medical training. A week later Schumacher died in hospital.
