In the state of Chiapas in southern Mexico five people, including the mayor and two officials, were killed in the shooting on the protest.
The incident occurred on the morning of 23 July in the small town of San Juan Chamula.
A group of protesters arrived to Express dissatisfaction with the policy of the local administration. During the protest some of its armed members opened fire. The result was killed by the mayor, Domingo Lopez, two officials, a driver and a local resident. 12 people were injured and were hospitalized.
The state government announced that the peace in the city was restored.
