More than two thousand American and Russian viewers saw a Russian feature films produced in 2016, award-winning festivals and a high potential on international markets: “the Duelist” (dir. Alexey Mizgirev), “Good boy” (dir. Oksana Karas), “Cloth Union” (dir. Michael Mestetsky), “Zoology” (dir. Ivan Tverdovskiy) and short films “the Kid” (dir. Vlad Kozlov), “Father and boy” (dir. Evgeny Sinelnikov), “Brutus” (dir. Konstantin FAM).
In Los Angeles hosted a Russian film Week

Ekaterina Mtsituridze told about the success of Russian films in America:I am very glad that the Week of the New Russian Cinema was a full house, and none of the films from our program have left the audience indifferent. If after watching “Good boy” the audience thanked the Director and all of us for joyful emotions, after “Zoology” a few spectators elderly demonstratively left the hall, but the rest of the audience was enthusiastic and long applause after the Q&A session the crew of the film. “Cloth Union” were also warm in Berlin at the premiere, well, “the Duelist” on the three shows, the cinema, and two universities, applauded until the end credits. Against the background of such a busy political field, the mission cultural expansion our films done! By the way, many of us asked for whom would we vote who we like – Hillary, or trump, to which I, without hesitation, replied that we would gladly voted for Steven Spielberg or woody Allen but they don’t move. But seriously, I am very pleased that before the American film market, where at ROSKINO’s stand working more than forty companies from Russia, we successfully promoted movies which then we have the same and will be sold all over the world. I hope, successfully!”.
Gala opening weeks of the New Russian Cinema was held on 27 October in a popular movie theater in Los Angeles ArcLight Hollywood. Guests saw one of the best Russian films of 2016 – “Duelist” Alexey Mizgireva (producers Alexander Rodnyansky, Sergey Melkumov), adventure film with elements of Thriller, mystery and melodrama. To submit a picture to the United States came producer Alexander Rodnyansky and the starring Pyotr Fyodorov. World premiere of “the Duelist” was held at the international film festival in Toronto in the program of the TIFF SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS and received high marks professionals and the leading media. In the States the film will be released on December 2 in fifteen major cities.
Producer Alexander Rodnyansky said:the Week was very busy – a lot of business negotiations with the film industry interesting discussion with the audience and representatives of the American press. Such an event as the Russian film Week is essential, it allows you to feel the interest of the potential audience long before the movie was released. After all, the aim of our movie is to learn to do is clear the history, able to excite an audience outside the country. This is a good opportunity to renew contacts and to use the film screening, organized by ROSKINO, in the interests of the future of painting”.
Actor Peter Fedorov also shared his impressions from the show this Week:the New Russian cinema – it is a real bridge between the two States! I am very grateful ROSKINO for the opportunity to bring a “Duelist” to the States and to provide local audiences. After the screenings the audience had many interesting questions – about the difficult moments in the process of filming and creating the image of historic St. Petersburg. Premiere week of the New Russian Cinema in Los Angeles held in the fashion theater Laemmle, Monica Film Center and in the prestigious halls of film schools the United States University of southern California (USC School of Cinematic Arts Complex) and the new York film Academy (New York Film Academy, NYFA, Los Angeles Campus). Director: Oksana Karas says:to Promote and to show the Russian cinema abroad is crucial for our political and cultural situation – there is nothing more valuable than such acts of mutual trust and interest, deliberate love to each other and to the movie. Program weeks of the New Russian cinema is composed of very different genres. At the end the viewer gets a very comprehensive idea of what is happening in Russian cinema, and through cinema we can understand what is happening to our society as a whole. Speaking of my painting, it’s a Comedy, and I was very worried because of the language barrier, as the audience will embrace it. The film is in Russian with subtitles, and Comedy in many of text jokes that need to properly translate. But judging by the reactions and applause – our history believed!”.

An important event of the Week of the New Russian Cinema in Los Angeles was the presentation of the first in the modern history of the Russian sci-Fi blockbuster about alien invasion “Attraction” by Fyodor Bondarchuk – the audience saw the part of the mounted movie with special effects of new generation. The picture “Gravity” to be released in simultaneously in Russia and China (January 2017), December 2 will be ready dubbing of the picture to promote in Korea, Japan, Germany, and Italy.
