The monastery and settlement lasted until the end of XV-beginning XVI centuries and disappeared after the conquest of the South coast of the Ottoman Empire. Today, Ayu-Dag, a popular tourist site.
Much importance is associated to the name of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. In the summer and autumn of 1820, he spent several weeks in the home of the Duke of Richelieu is now the Pushkin Museum.
While in Gurzuf Pushkin wrote several poems, worked on the poem “prisoner of the Caucasus”, here he had the idea of the famous novel “Eugene Onegin”.
