In China shut down news sections from many popular web portals

Recently, it was reported that China shut down news sections on many popular web portals.

This may be due to the fact that in early July, Chinese authorities banned news services to get information from social media. In the decision of the cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) issued on 3 July, said that information obtained from social media is “a rumor or fake.”

A Twitter user under the nickname Beidaijin reported July 22, citing a source identified as “Feng Xiang”, news sections at major online news agencies are currently closed.

On the same day, this was the message on Sina Weibo, a popular social media platform.

The restrictions relating to Sina Weibo, Sohu and NetEase, known as the “three main portal, and include their web sites, apps and accounts on WeChat.

For many years these portals have released the news in the bypass rules forbidding them to do so. The Chinese government is probably concerned about the content of the news, in particular reports about the facts of social injustice.

The representative of the cyberspace Administration of China on 25 July, officially announced that the content of online news issues not in the rules, which led to “serious negative consequences”.

In addition to receiving warnings and fines online portals were ordered to reprint news from state news agencies, mass media or directly under the supervision of the Department of propaganda, according to Beijing News.
