History
In ancient times Ukrainians have expressed themselves through embroidered on men’s or women’s shirt patterns. Wore a casual, festive shirt. Shirts with the new wave alive among Ukrainians. In every region of the country lived a certain ethnic group, which had inherent in their location patterns and traditions.
History of the embroidery on the territory of modern Ukraine dates back BC. Was thinking about her, Herodotus and a lot of travelers. People for centuries have created and perfected various techniques of embroidery. Each ornament on the shirt was not just so, and had a special place, meaning, and magic, as the Ukrainians believed that a particular pattern has some protective power from the ills and evil forces. Embroidery could determine the status and origin of the owner.
Winnitca region
In Vinnytsia region is not limited in the color scheme. But on each shirt, you can see the color that is predominant in the patterns. Here skilfully combined almost all the performance techniques and styles of display items: niz, cross stitch painting, flooring, cutting; different types of grids. Contour seams framed and linked the individual ornaments of the composition.
Volynska oblast
The shirts has a clear, geometric patterns, and the simplicity of compositions embroidery adds sophistication. White-gray canvas embroidered with red thread. Floral motifs are popular in the South region.
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Sleeves of the shirts and the neckline were embroidered with colored thread and black FPGAs. In a men’s embroidered shirt was dominated by red and black colors.
Donetsk oblast
Here, too, liked the combination of red and black. Decorated with embroidery and openwork carving.
Zhytomyrska oblast
Small cross and “nanizyvanie” — embroidered in the Zhytomyr region. Red with black or blue fully cover the shirt sleeve. The most common motive is the outlet and the rhythmic repetition of a simple pattern of broken lines, octagonal stars or diamonds.
Transcarpathian region

Zaporizhia oblast
The shirt was done in red and black colors, with dominant red. The patterns were simple — big and geometric. Usually adorned with embroidered floral motifs — flowers, viburnum, etc.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
The embroidery of this region is the richest in decoration and design. The color scheme used is different, as the ornaments.
Kyiv region
In the Kyiv region embroidered geometric plant patterns in white, coral red or black colors. Preference white with splashes of green and red. Embroidered adorned with hops, stylized bunches of grapes, diamonds, etc. For embroidery a period used and blue twisted cotton thread “zapalac”. But over time they were replaced by black, as the blue quickly faded.
Kirovohrad oblast
Embroidery Kirovohrad region has a very realistic ornaments: if you have embroidered a bunch of grapes, was even glitter grapes, and a thin mustache. Red and black loved here.
Luhansk oblast
The shirt, mostly the Poltava type, decorated hem woven “openwork”. The originality of the embroidery laid in multi-colored ornaments, made a small cross and procrastina, sometimes coarse thread. Dominated by geometric and floral-geometric patterns. Here boldly combine the red color with blue.
Lviv oblast
In this region like to combine several different patterns. On a white canvas spill geometric patterns that create a casual light clothing. To embroidered items stand out and volume between the patterns leave a blank canvas.
Mykolaiv oblast
Different shirts have a different cut of the neck — narrow or wide stand-up collar, trimmed with a ruched stand clarkei, with the stated collar and others. The originality of the shirts had square cutouts around the neck and sleeves, which are sewed straight with a relaxed finish, no Assembly in the wrist. Paint — red, black and sometimes gray, gray-blue.
Odessa oblast
Traditional Odessa shirt with chubbies were made of white cotton fabric. Chubby — gather the fabric on the sleeve just below the shoulder. It Puhlik sleeves adds splendor and volume. Poltava region

Rivne oblast
On a linen white canvas as the main one was the white thread of the pattern. The shirt had various add-ons and colored ornaments.
Sumska oblast
The neighboring Poltava, Sumy region is very common — here, too, was embroidered with white thread, processing the edges of the ornaments of black.
Ternopil oblast
Expressive relief pattern — these were the shirts in the Ternopil region. Ornaments embroidered with cotton thread of condensed stitches. Colored cotton threads to trace certain patterns along the sleeves of the shirt. Especially famous for embroidery from the village of borschiv. They differ rich embroidered sleeves, usually embroidered in black. Here it is associated with the black pages of the history of the region — it often attacked the Turks and Tatars.
Kharkiv oblast
Multicolor shirt in these regions, embroidered in thick thread, so that the ornament becomes a relief. Feature of embroidery is the polychrome patterns made by procrastina or a cross. Kherson oblast

Khmel’nyts’ka oblast’
Coarse thread in the technique of cross-stitch embroidered shirt in Khmelnytskyi region. The dominant color was black, and very rarely it is combined with patches of red or cherry.
Cherkasy oblast
Geometric and floral motifs on the embroidery was done with red thread.
Chernivtsi oblast
Embroidery has a magnificently embroidered sleeves with a characteristic oblique stripes. Also used the technique of satin stitch, small cross and a twisted seam. The ornaments were applied primarily black and Burgundy thread, which stood out well against the backdrop of colorful outfit. Some were embroidered in silk thread. For the decoration used glass beads, silver and gold thread, silk, wool and sequins. Also, there was especially decorated with flowers embroidered shirts.
Chernihiv oblast
In the region loved to “play” over a good shirt, so embroidered in very fine stitches, which gave the embroidery of emergency. The pattern was done with white threads with colourful accents, the ornament had a plant or an abstract view. Here is also traditional and embroidered with beads.
