This is one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
Just a few weeks over the admission of new students to higher education institutions around the world. Is no exception and Cambridge University, which occupies the 4th place in the ranking of the best universities in the world. Each year Cambridge receives more than 16 thousand applications of the applicants, but only 20% of them undergo a rigorous competition. Wijetilake of Shani (Shani Wijetilaka) from Sydney, Australia, is one of those fortunate, who last year managed to get a place at a prestigious University.
Here’s how it showed a day in the life of a student of one of the most famous universities in the world.
Shani — the center. Now she is finishing first year law at Cambridge is Trinity College, founded by Henry VIII in 1546 and is one of 31 colleges that comprise the University.
She must attend 8 hours of lectures every week. But during the session, Shani can Wake up later than usual, about 9 o’clock in the morning. She lives in a College Dorm with 25 other students in the center of Cambridge. As you can see, on the Board indicate the name of each student — very impressive.
This is her room. Although students can have Breakfast in the canteen of the University, Shani has a refrigerator and a kitchenette on the contrary — this means that it can start the day without leaving the room.
Its dwelling place is not too different from living spaces that you can find in other UK universities.
This is one of the cafeterias, where students can go if they don’t want to cook.
But it is not surprising that she prefers to eat Breakfast at home — from its Windows offer beautiful views of the 420-year-old College, Sidney Sussex.
Breakfast ended and although today will not be lectures, Shani will have to be done — usually in the library …
… but since the weather is beautiful today, she takes the laptop and goes to the Great court, where sitting and working on the fountain, the history of which dates back to the 1400-th years.
By 11:30 she had to work for about two hours, which certainly contributed to such a beautiful setting.
Here is the Cambridge faculty of law is one of the world’s leading law schools, in which Shani is attending some of the lectures. The faculty has about 700 students.
The audience scattered throughout the University campus. Specifically, this is used for a large number of special events.
It’s time for a coffee break. In the College bar — located under the stairs near the Large court — have recently begun to make a delicious frappe.
Shani is often left in the bar to work — it’s pretty quiet and incredibly comfortable chairs. So today she continues preparing for the exams.
By 14 o’clock, she returns to her room to change and to go to meet with friends on campus. As you can see, Cambridge is incredibly beautiful. On the way home seen the chapel of St. John’s College.
All students are always busy with different cases, so a meeting should be planned in advance. Today Shani and several of her friends decided to go for afternoon tea in one of the many tearooms of Cambridge.
Cakes and tea — it’s very English! Shani her friends want to visit various tea rooms around the city to try different dishes.
The presence of many friends — one of the most favorite things of Shani in my life in College. There are students from all continents, because more than 11% — about 1,300 — came from abroad.
After dinner she went back to her room. Fortunately, today was quiet, but it is sometimes difficult to get to the gate because of the crowds.
Shani needs to take the laptop and books from her room for supervision. Supervision sessions are mandatory and are the primary method of teaching students of Cambridge. They suggest lessons with discussions of small groups of students.
This is the last supervision Sheni this year, and how perfect that it takes place outdoors on the lawn.
Shani and the other students are relieved to finish his first year of teaching law. Because preparation for each supervision lasts about 20 hours and this is their 10th supervision.
View of beautiful old buildings makes supervision even more difficult, but interesting. Supervisor Shani likes to ask difficult questions.
After supervision that ended at 16:30, Shani should go to a meeting in the club bar of The Cambridge Union. Fortunately, it is just a 5-minute walk from the College, so the girl doesn’t have far to go.
Besides the fact that it is a meeting place for students, the club is also known as the home to the world’s oldest continuously operating debating society and similar to Parliament with the warring parties.
At the University campus has a very rich history. This is the main hall of the College of Christ and he still retains many of its original features, including stained glass Windows and panels in dark wood.
The architecture of the campus is as majestic as the ancient. This is the Old Hall of Queens College, which seats up to 114 people and was built in 1429. It is used for special functions.
After meeting in College, Shani returned to her room to prepare for the official dinner and she has a lot of shoes to choose from. Each College holds formal dinners, which are attended by students and their guests. To 19:30 Shani should be in place to get a good seat.
Each College your outfit for this event — the students of Trinity wear dark robes.
Around midnight, Shani returns to his room to sleep and do it all again tomorrow.
