To ensure the “strengthening European security”, American lawmakers are willing to increase the defense budget in 2017 just four times, the newspaper writes.
MOSCOW, 24 APR – RIA Novosti. To confront the so-called Russian aggression, U.S. lawmakers are planning a four-fold increase in the article in the defense budget, aimed at “strengthening European security”, writes the American newspaper the Hill.
The article notes that “Russian aggression” will be one of the main topics on the agenda at the meeting of the Committee on the issues of weapons of the U.S. House of representatives, April 27, to discuss the defense budget for next year.
“At the head of the action against Russia under the American legislators, is the strengthening of European security, involving the provision of military assistance to European allies, who fear Moscow’s actions,” writes The Hill.
On the initiative of American legislators plan to spend 3.4 billion dollars, which is four times more than the amount provided for the same purpose in 2016. In addition, the bill provides $ 150 million aid to Kiev in the framework of “security assistance of Ukraine”.
“We have money to deploy troops in various parts of Eastern Europe, and most importantly, be present in this region and to show support to our allies,” said a member of the Committee on armed Adam Smith.
In addition politicians want to solicit funds for purchase of military aircraft, ships and other weapons “to deter Russia”.
After the meeting in the framework of the Council Russia-NATO, held on 20 April, the Russian representative to the Alliance Alexander Grushko said that the question of attempts military pressure on Russia. “We will take all necessary precautions to offset these attempts to use military force,” he added.
NATO has repeatedly stated its intention to increase its military presence of the Alliance in Eastern Europe. Moscow expressed dissatisfaction with NATO’s plans on building up their forces at the Russian border, and has stated that such actions are a threat to its national interests and security.
