Ukrainian gymnast Oleg Vernaeve for the first time in his career won a medal in the Olympic games.
For Vernaeve the way the round started with a successful performance in qualifying, the leader of the Ukrainian team scored 91.964 points, almost six points ahead of two-time Olympic champion and the main favorite of all of the Koch Uchimura.
After the floor exercise (score – 15,033) and horse (15,533) Verniaiev took an intermediate third place. Ukrainian coped with rings (15,300) and waited for errors from Ucumari and max Vitlake – Oleg on the equator-round climbed to first place ahead of nearest competitor by 0.12 points.
