Germany rejected the ultimatum of Turkey on the abolition of visas

The German government rejected the demand of official Ankara on the abolition of visas between Turkey and the European Union.

On 31 July the Minister of foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu called on the German government to adopt a visa-free regime till October, otherwise he threatened to cancel the agreement with the European Union on refugees, he declared it in interview to the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Today the official representative the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Germany Martin Schaefer said that the issue of liberalization of visa regime can be discussed only after the Turkey has all the necessary conditions.
Vice-Chancellor of Germany, Sigmar Gabriel, in turn, noted that Turkey has no right to exert pressure on the EU because of the norms of the European Union to cancel visas to date, she has not fulfilled.

This position was supported by the Secretary of the German ruling party Christian democratic Union Andreas Scheuer. He called “threats and ultimatums” from Turkey’s new policy of Erdogan.

Scheuer also said that the European Union is “not in the Turkish Bazaar to bargain for the abolition of the 72 visa-free regime.
