New White paper aimed at expanding the use of the Bundeswehr inside the country.
The government of Germany on Wednesday, 13 July, approved a new White paper, which formulated the strategy of the country in the field of security and defense. This document, developed under the auspices of the Ministry of defence, is of crucial importance for the future role of the Bundeswehr.
New White paper takes into account changes in security that have occurred since 2006, when was adopted the previous revision of this document. In the current version, in particular, referred to the strained relations with Russia due to the conflict around Ukraine.
In the new edition of “White book” Germany expresses its readiness to take on a more active role at the global level and become one of the leaders on the world stage.
A new edition of “White book” provides greater opportunity to use the Bundeswehr inside of Germany, does not require, however, changes to the Constitution. In the document, in particular, it is noted that the government considers constitutional the use of the Bundeswehr in the event of a serious terrorist threat.
Service in the ranks of the Bundeswehr will continue to be open to citizens of other EU countries, not just citizens of Germany. Union soldiers of the Bundeswehr, the largest organization representing the interests of the soldiers, however, opposes this.
