German foreign Minister once again called for the return of Russia in the G8

Глава МИД Германии вновь высказался за возвращение России в G8

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier reiterated their support for the return of Russia to the “big eight”, reports Deutsche Welle.

“I wish to ensure that the G7 did not remain for a long time, but we created the conditions for the return to G8”, — he said on the eve of the meeting of foreign Ministers of the countries “big seven”, which begins on Sunday, April 10, in Japanese Hiroshima, reports dpa.

At the same time, according to Steinmeier, this year conditions for the return to G8 “we don’t have yet”. Basic prerequisites for the return of Russia, the Minister said that the need for its contribution to a political solution to the conflict in Ukraine and a long “constructive role” in the peaceful settlement in Syria.

Earlier, in June 2015, Steinmeier said that the West could not ignore Russia’s violation of international law, however, isn’t interested in “forever to the G8 became the G7”, because it needs Russia to resolve chronic conflicts in neighbouring regions of Europe.

In November of the same year, the Minister said that two main conditions for the return of Moscow in the G8 participation in the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict and in the fight against jihadists in Syria.

Russia was excluded from the group of eight in June 2014 after joining the Crimea to Russia. Then the leaders of the leading world powers refused to participate in the G8 summit, which Russia as the Chairman of the group of eight had to be in Sochi. Instead, in Brussels was held the G7 summit.
