France gave Egypt the second Mistral, destined for Russia

 In the French port of Saint-Nazaire, the ceremony of transfer to Egypt of the second class helicopter “Mistral”, which was originally built for Russia, Reuters reports.

The ship raised the flag of Egypt. It will be called “Anwar Sadat” in honor of the late President.

The total amount of the transaction amounted to approximately $1 billion.

The French contractor has replaced the information system and instructions written in Cyrillic, Arabic and English inscriptions, the correspondent of Reuters.

“Anwar Sadat” in the beginning of next week will come from Saint-Nazaire to conduct joint exercises with the naval forces of France, before heading to the port of permanent deployment of Alexandria.

The representative of the Egyptian fleet told the news Agency that his country has ordered from France, four corvettes, negotiations on the establishment of two more.

The first helicopter carrier France gave Egypt on 2 June.

Initially, the French side have built both “Mistral” for Russia. A contract to supply helicopter contracted by countries in 2011, was terminated in connection with the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

August 5, 2015 French President Francois Hollande and Russian President Vladimir Putin finally agreed to terminate the contract for the supply of “Mistral”.
23 September 2015, the Elysee Palace has officially confirmed that the presidents of France and Egypt have agreed on the delivery to Cairo two ships “Mistral”.
