In Belarus, the elections for the first time in 20 years in the 110-local House of representatives passed one candidate from the opposition.

The head of the Belarusian Central election Commission Lidia Yermoshina at a press briefing, which announced the results of elections in seven districts said that one of them was won by Anna Konopatskaya from the “United civil party”.

This result does not change the overall political situation in the post-Soviet Republic, in which a lot is determined by the President Alexander Lukashenko, but is a signal of the willingness of the authorities to go for a consensus with the West, demanding democratic change, said the Agency.

The CEC also said that the turnout in the parliamentary elections in Belarus made up 74,32% of the voters. The highest turnout recorded in the Mogilev region — 80,90%, the lowest — in Minsk (61,11%).
