Flood victims in the DPRK were more than 130 people

Due to severe flooding in the border region of North Korea, according to the latest figures, killed 133 people, 395 missing. Tens of thousands were left homeless.

In the flood zone near the river Tumen in the North-East of the country, near the border with Russia and China, there are more than 100 thousand people. Authorities declared a mass mobilization at the 200-day campaign on elimination of consequences of natural disasters and assistance to victims.

In total, the floods damaged more than 35 million homes, almost 70% of them completely destroyed. Damage caused to more than 8700 public buildings, flooded about 16 thousand of farmland. Urgent help need at least 140 thousand people.

Representatives of the UN office for the coordination of humanitarian Affairs, the red cross and international non-governmental organizations visited the affected areas to assess the consequences of floods and the needs of the local population.
