Famous people don’t always die a natural death. Often they die at the hands of a prudent political opponents or crazy fanatics. Here is a list of murders that have most shocked the mankind for the last two hundred years.
Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, was shot in the other April 14, 1865. He was 56 years old. The assassin, John Wilkes Booth, was a staunch rebel and fiercely hated the President for his desire to give freedom to black Americans. He long followed the President, and on 14 April he finally had a moment: during the performance guard Lincoln came to a nearby saloon to get a dram, and the President was left without protection. In the confusion, booth managed to escape, but 12 days later he was shot by police.
James Garfield
20th US President James Garfield stayed in office only 200 days. His killer, a lawyer and preacher Charles Guiteau, actively campaigned for Garfield in the election, hoping to obtain the post of Ambassador. But, not having achieved the desired, in anger, decided to kill Garfield. July 2, 1881, he followed the President during trips to Baltimore, and finally, approaching him, fired two shots at point blank range in the back. Garfield died in hospital two months later from blood poisoning. Guiteau was captured, tried and hanged in June 1882.
Robert Kennedy
Senator Robert Kennedy, brother of the slain President and the presidential candidate of the Democratic party, was gunned down in La’s the Ambassador hotel 5 June, 1968. The Senator had just won primaries in California, but victory in the presidential race demanded a lot of effort, and the speech was one thing after another. After meeting with supporters in the Ambassador hotel, Robert Kennedy, despite the warnings of the guards decided to take a shortcut through the hotel kitchen. Then he met a Palestinian immigrant Serhan Serhan, three shot Kennedy at point blank range. The Senator died the next day in the hospital, and the killer was sentenced to life imprisonment which he is serving today.
Faisal Ibn Abdul-Aziz
King Faisal rules Soudokay Arabia from 1965 to 1975. March 25, 1975, he was assassinated by a nephew, Faisal bin Musicom. After returning from a trip to the U.S., Faisal bin Musaid went to greet his uncle. The king rose from his throne to meet him, and was immediately hit with two shots to the head. The king died instantly. A nephew was tried, found guilty and after a couple of months hung in Riyadh.
William McKinley
William McKinley was the third American President assassinated during the presidential term. McKinley liked to appear in public and reluctantly agreed to the protection. He gave a chance to an unemployed anarchist Leon Czolgosz, decided to kill the President as a representative of the exploiting class. September 6, 1901, in the concert hall at the world the pan-American exhibition in Buffalo, McKinley went to Czolgosz to shake his hand and was shot at point blank range. Czolgosz was executed in the electric chair, and the safety of US presidents since provides special secret service.
Harvey Bernard Milk
Harvey Bernard milk became the first openly gay person selected to public office in California, he became a member of the Supervisory Board. His unfortunate opponent in the election, conservative, Dan white, who hated gays in General and Milka personally, decided to take matters into their own hands – and shot milk. The murder occurred on November 27 197-th, almost a year after milk took office. Subsequently, a biopic Mielke took not just anybody, but intelligent and cool Gus van Sant.
Mahatma Gandhi
The Mahatma Gandhi attempted twice, but only the third time the killer reached his goal. On 30 January 1948, when Gandhiji went to the temple to pray, the killer approached him in the crowd of admirers and fired three shots at close range. One of them proved fatal: the bullet hit me in the heart. Gandhi died on the spot, having only to make it clear that he forgives his killer. He was a nationalist Nathuram Gojyo, who believed that Gandhi’s policy leads to excessive subordination of Indian interests to Pakistan. Although Gandhi forgave Gojo, but the court is not: he was hanged in November 1949.
John F. Kennedy
Shots in Dallas, delivered November 22, 1963, became arguably the most studied public murder in history. Lee Harvey Oswald
Lee Harvey Oswald survived John F. Kennedy just two days. November 24, 1963, during transportation from the police Department of the Dallas jail, he was shot, the only shot made by a resident of Dallas by Jack ruby. Ruby explained their actions by personal hatred to the murderer; the court sentenced him to death, but the sentence was challenged. In the midst of litigation, ruby died of lung cancer, which suffered for a long time, becoming yet another mysterious page mysterious story about the Kennedy assassination.
Georgi Markov
Bulgarian writer and dissident Georgi Markov, who defected in 1969 England, was killed on 7 September 1978 in London. It is believed that the killer was an agent of the Bulgarian KGB, although it was never found. Markov’s death became widely known because of the way the murders: passerby on the street as if accidentally pricked his umbrella in the leg, thus entering under the skin of Markov capsule of poison, from which the Markov died a few days later. Subsequently, this incredible story has been used in the scripts of several films – from serious political crime to hilarious French Comedy “the Prick an umbrella”.
Martin Luther king, Jr.
A preacher, a lawyer and brilliant orator, Martin Luther king was one of the leaders of the American movement against racial segregation. He was shot 4 April 1968 in Memphis. King stood on the second floor balcony when a sniper’s bullet hit him in the neck. In an hour the 39-year-old king died. The murderer was James Earl ray, a staunch racist with a criminal past. Ray himself claimed that he was merely a pawn in a large conspiracy, but the evidence was never found, although relatives of the king remained so long in the belief that his death involved the American government.
Alexander Litvinenko
Alexander Litvinenko, a former intelligence officer who escaped from Russia to England, was Georgi Markov the present day. He died in November 2006 in a London hospital from acute poisoning with symptoms of radiation sickness. The investigation revealed that a few weeks before the death of Litvinenko drank tea in a London hotel, where his Cup had somehow turned out to be a lethal dose of radioactive polonium-210. The investigation of Litvinenko is still ongoing, and “tea with polonium” has already become the famous Internet meme.
Malcolm X
A well-known defender of the rights of the black population SHA, Malcolm X was shot 21 shot point blank in the beginning of his speech before the members of the Organization of Afro-American unity in the dance hall “Audubon” in new York. Responsibility for the murder claimed members of the extremist organization of the black population of America “the Nation of Islam. Once Malcolm was part of it, but then, disillusioned with the ideals of black racism, left the Nation of Islam. Malcolm X was no less popular among black Americans than Martin Luther king: to say goodbye to him came a few dozen thousand people.
Benazir Bhutto
The only ever female Prime Minister of Pakistan, was killed after returning to the country from years of exile. When Bhutto, who was Prime Minister in 1988-1990 and 1993 to 1996, said in 2007, will again run for the post, it was immediately made the attempt. The first attempt took place on 15 October 1993. Killed more than 130 people, but Bhutto is still alive. Finally, on 27 December 2007, when Bhutto was riding in an open-top car, greeting the voters, the terrorist opened fire on it, simultaneously activating the multiple explosive devices. It killed more than 20 people, Bhutto died an hour later on the operating table. The killer was never found, although no one doubts that he belonged to a radical Islamic groups.
John Lennon
8 December 1980 John Lennon along with Yoko Ono were returning from the Studio when near the house he called. Lennon turned, and the killer, mark David Chapman, shot him with five bullets. Four reached the goal, and John Lennon in a few minutes died from acute blood loss. Chapman explained his action the desire for glory; he showed clear signs of mental problems but was found sane and sentenced to life imprisonment. Over the years, Chapman eight times filed petitions for pardon, but they were all rejected.
