Today European Union leaders will find a way out of this crisis. In an interview with DW journalist Tim Sebastian said the former Vice-President of the European Commission, former EU Commissioner for enlargement and neighbourhood policy, günter Verheugen (Günter Verheugen).
In his view, a referendum on the British exit from the EU was a “salutary shock” for the EU, at the same time threatening the very existence of the EU. “There is a clear risk that the European Union will not survive,” said Verheugen.
He urged to accept the democratic decision of the greater part of the British people.
“The EU is not a prison. Who wants to come – out. Neither of vengeance nor of punishment cannot be and speeches” – said the German politician.
Verheugen stressed that the European officials has never been a secret that “we need to make Europe more attractive”, as otherwise the EU may not survive.
“There is a clear tendency to decay. In many countries there is a trend to return to the national economy,” he said.
