The President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid selected, which was representative of this country in the European of the counting Commission.

During the voting in the Estonian Parliament Kaljulaid received the support of 81 MPs of the 101. For approval to the post she had to score at least 68 votes.

Kaljulaid became a presidential candidate once in September, two rounds of voting failed: none of the participating candidates received more than half the votes in the Riigikogu, as required by law. After that, the candidates refused from participation in elections.

In Estonia, the President performs mainly representative functions, and has much fewer powers than the Prime Minister.

Kaljulaid became the fifth President of Estonia and the first woman to hold that post.
