“We believe that Ukraine should have good relations both with Europe and with Russia. It will be impossible if Ukraine will become a member of the EU”, — quotes the portal words of the head of the Dutch government. Rutte also said that “the history of Russia originated in Kiev”.

The Prime Minister added that his statement should not be regarded as support for Moscow’s position on Ukraine.

Poroshenko: anti-Russian sanctions “must act”

“In connection with events in Eastern Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea Russia and Ukraine is unlikely to improve relations,” said Rutte.

At the moment the Netherlands is the only EU country that has not ratified the agreement on Association of Ukraine with the EU. April 6, the country held a referendum on this issue. The results of the referendum will be Advisory in nature. Recent polls show that more than 55 per cent of Dutch will vote against the agreement.

The Ukrainian leadership headed by President Petro Poroshenko calls European integration a priority of its policy. In 2014 were signed political and economic part of the Association agreement with the EU, which provide, inter alia, a free trade zone. In September it was ratified by the Verkhovna Rada. Finally the document will come into force after its ratification by the parliaments of sestran-ucetnictvi. According to Poroshenko, Kyiv will apply for EU membership in 2020
