The state Duma on Wednesday, June 22, passed a law abolishing the transport tax for owners of vehicles with maximum permissible weight over 12 tons, reports RIA Novosti.

Document is exempt from paying citizens and organizations, including farmers. Preferences will be valid until the end of 2018.

The law, in particular, provides that the amount of vehicle tax is reduced by the amount of the fees in the “Plato” for the reporting tax period.

The introduction of tax incentives for owners of trucks of the Russian government began to discuss after Russia earned the charging system with 12-tinnikov tolls on Federal highways.

After the introduction of the system in the regions, there were mass protest organized by drivers of heavy vehicles, demanding the complete abolition of this fee.

December 24, 2015 during a meeting with the government of President Vladimir Putin stated that the conflict around “Plato” could have been avoided if the authorities took action, covering the rising costs of truckers. The Cabinet opposed the abolition of vehicle tax, citing significant losses due to this measure for regional budgets.

17 December, during the big press conference Putin said that he considers it expedient to cancel the transport tax for the 12-tonner as a compensation for additional expenses at introduction of the system “Platon”.

The “Plato” started to work from November 15, 2015. From 15 April 2016 the registration system became mandatory for all heavy vehicles. You will be charged both with Russian and foreign transport. The funds collected go to the Federal road Fund. Developer and operator of the “Plato” is TITS, which is owned by Arkady and Igor Rotenberg, the structure of “Rostec” and “RT-invest”.
