Representatives of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people calls on the EU to strengthen sanctions against Russia, in particular, to consider the temporary embargo on Russian oil and disconnect Russia from global banking system SWIFT, said the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars Refat Chubarov in the air “Public TV”.

“Against the background of intensified repressions against the Crimean Tatars, our task is to make the international community tended to more stringent sanctions against Russia,” he said.

The European Parliament intends to hold a debate and adopt a resolution on the violation of the rights of Crimean Tatars at its meeting on 12 may. The agenda includes the issues of violation of human rights, democracy and the rule of law against the Tatars in the Crimea.

“We call for the shutdown of the banking system SWIFT. I also talked about the fact that European countries considered the question of the possible, though temporary embargo on energy supplies from Russia, particularly oil,” – said Chubarov.

In case of disconnection from SWIFT, Russian banks will lose the opportunity to manage their correspondent accounts abroad, and conduct in-country payments.
