“Cat and mouse” on the world stage: a dramatic statement of the Kremlin “sobered” Europe

"Кошки - мышки" на мировой арене: резкое заявление Кремля "отрезвило" Европу

In the course of British sociological research group YouGov revealed that Russia’s chances of joining the European Union than even Turkey, which has long maintained a dialogue on this topic. According to the results of the study, every fifth inhabitant of France and Germany believes that Russia should join the EU.

However, Konstantin Kosachev, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on international Affairs, believes that Russia’s membership in the international organization profitable and do not need.

“The EU is good for some countries that are now trying to join in order to hide under the wing of the powerful. And it’s definitely not Russia’s policy. It’s definitely not about our goals and objectives and foreign policy priorities”, – expressed his opinion of the politician.

Also Kosachev noted that Russia is a self – sufficient country, and the accession to the European Union, “we too would have to sacrifice in terms of our national sovereignty and our national interests.”

I agree with this point of view, and Sergei Filatov, political activist and expert in the field of international relations.

“We will join, and in Moscow will command in Brussels. We need this? Russia what is needed? Now they have lost a huge amount of money after mutual sanctions. Therefore, Russia Europe needs now is like a giant market where they can earn”.

In addition, Svetlana Zhurova, Deputy Chairman of the international Committee of the state Duma noted that for Europe, Russia is associated mainly with Putin’s “strong hand”, in which Europe needs.

“People see Putin is sane, he is a man who follows what he says. And this, apparently, is not enough European politicians. People understand that their policy in this democracy, especially in matters of migration, has gone too far, and they need a firm hand and a person able to make clear decisions.”
