Britain abolished the last tobacco factory

In the English County of Nottingham ceased operations in the country last tobacco factory. Imperial Tobacco company, which owned the company likely will focus on Eastern European and Asian markets, experts say.

The sale of the factory, built in 1972, the company announced a few months ago. Imperial Tobacco gradually moving their manufacturing plants to other countries where labor is cheaper. The transfer of production to Germany and Poland will increase revenue of the company for 320 million pounds ($464.2 million), explained its representative.

At peak production, the plant produced 52 billion cigarettes a year, but, as noted by a Union representative Chris Needham, since the demand for cigarettes in Britain have fallen greatly.

“The decline in production, and one of the factors here – the negative attitude towards Smoking in society,” says Needham.

“Now they [the tobacco company] targeting Asian markets, where social rejection of Smoking not so much. Iraq, Syria, Russia, China – I am confident that these markets will focus Imperial Tobacco,” he says.

Imperial Tobacco Group – the fourth largest tobacco company, one of the two founders of the group British American Tobacco.
