The unity of the European Union was under threat. As reported TASS, after the referendum on the UK’s membership of the EU, a similar issue could be raised in Italy.
This opinion was expressed by the leader of the Italian opposition party “Northern League” Matteo Salvini. According to him, his party plans to collect signatures for a draft law that would allow referendums on matters regulated by international agreements, including membership in the EU. At present, the Italians had not.
At the same time, Salvini noted that “the Northern League” is not an adversary of the EU. “We stand for a Europe that respects national identity of the peoples for a free and sovereign Europe. But the EU in its current form is something of the opposite, – said the politician. The EU depends on people who are not elected, they sit in the European Commission, often make decisions contrary to decisions by national parliaments”.
