Company BMW has published the first images of the sedan 5-Series a new generation. Premiere of the car will take place at the motor show in Detroit in early 2017. Earlier it was planned that the car will debut at the Paris motor show this autumn. However, in the capital of France instead of a new BMW 5-Series sedan of the German brand will show a new crossover X2.
The images depict a prototype serial version of the model. The photos show the process of generating a 3D image of the car with the help of special manipulators. The device collects the precise data that help to detect faults at an early stage of production.
The new BMW 5-Series will be built on the 35up modular platform – the same that formed the basis of BMW 7-Series. In designing the body of the “five” were used experience with lighter materials, are obtained when creating models i3 and i8. According to preliminary information, the model will be about 100 kg lighter than the predecessor. The weight of the car will be about 1500 pounds. The machine dimensions will remain the same as before.
Accurate information about the range of engines yet, but most likely, it will include four-, six-, and eight-cylinder units with turbocharging. Plan and production of a hybrid version. A modern system for 5-Series will be borrowed from “seven” of the current generation.
Later there will be and option 5-Series GT. It is tested in Munich. Car sales should start in late 2017. The model will get a sloping roof, narrow headlights, unique grille and a new exhaust system with two tailpipes. The car will be significantly lighter than its predecessor.
