BMW i3 electric car equipped with an upgraded set of batteries. New battery pack helped to increase cruising range by 50 percent.
Capacity battery, developed in conjunction with the firm Samsung, has increased from 22 to 33 kilowatt-hours. Electric car can travel without recharging up to 300 kilometers, instead of 160-190 km. The company argued that even when the weather is cold and working climate control system of the electric vehicle cruising range is not less than 200 kilometers.
A new set of batteries will be available for both fully electric version with a 170-horsepower electric motor and modifications with an additional two-cylinder internal combustion engine to recharge the batteries. In the latter case, the gasoline engine capacity of 647 cubic centimeters increases a cruising range of 150 kilometers.
The new battery pack will retain the same dimensions, but turned out to be 50 pounds heavier than the previous set. The all-electric BMW i3 can accelerate from zero to “hundred” in 7.3 seconds and a variant with internal combustion engines for 8.1 seconds. This is 0.1 and 0.2 seconds slower versions with the same battery, respectively. In both cases, the maximum speed is electronically limited to 150 km per hour.
In Germany, prices for the BMW i3 with new batteries start from 36 thousand 150 euros, and the version with magnifier power reserve will cost at least 150 Euro 41 thousand.
