Domestic cats refuse homemade food, because the proportion of protein and fat in them are far from optimal for these predators the ratio of 1 to 0.4 mm. This was stated by British scientists, noting that the animals can refuse to accept the unusual food.
Biologists watched as several home predators chose food with multiple options. Cats, like many other small families, all obligate predators. This means that their digestive system is adapted to eating only meat, and meat of certain animals. But the use of the “wrong” foods can cause stomach problems, and potential death.
Based on this hypothesis, the researchers tested how important cats are the two key properties of the food ratio of nutrients in it – protein, fat and carbohydrates, and its origin and the related taste.
The researchers prepared several variants of cat food with the same taste, but different proportions of nutrients and food with a different taste, but similar proportions of nutrients.
As it turned out, the animals at the choice of focus not on the taste of food and how many proteins and fat it contained. Cats would even eat food with orange flavoring, if it was found to contain about twice more proteins than fats.
These predators are not just foodies, and creatures trying to eat only healthy food.
