Available laptops based on the Intel Apollo Lake take over the world

Recently, Intel has created a class of mobile PC called “ultrabook”, which is characterized by slim design and low weight. He caught on, and appropriate devices are widely spread, so it’s time to introduce a new class — Cloudbook. Under this name refers to very affordable laptops based on the new hardware platform, Intel Apollo Lake.

But if in the case of laptops and ultrabooks name of class was unique, but the name Cloudbook may eventually be replaced by something else, because trademark rights are owned by Acer, which produces under her own inexpensive laptops. On the other hand, it may be an excellent advertising of its products, so we’ll see how that ends. Intel has even prepared a reference design of the laptop: the screen is 11.6 inches with Full HD resolution, 4 GB of RAM standard DDR3, flash drive 32 GB or SSD-drive to 64 GB in M. 2 format, as well as modules Bluetooth 4.1 and 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, USB type-C battery for 10 hours of work and a number of options: webcam and swivel touch screen.

The platform, Intel Apollo Lake is based on the Goldmont micro-architecture and going on a 14-nanometer processor with low power consumption. The type of CPU is not installed yet, but it will be either Atom or Core M. Deliveries of these processors, OEMs will begin in the second half of this year. Currently no brand has expressed his desire to release “CloudBook”.
