Canadian farmer Matthew Rymer has made my tractor a real autopilot machine which is able to be used for farming. He used an Arduino microcontroller and earlier developed for model aircraft autopilot Board pixhawk, allowing to make a real robotic tractor. In addition, the Canadian enthusiast independently wrote a program to control the tractor.
Tractor model John Deere 7930, which was taken as the basis of autopilot vehicles, equipped with automatic transmission and electric power steering that made it possible, without special design modifications to the tractor, to make it into the autopilot of the employee. Because of this, the whole autopilot fits in a small box, which easily connects and disconnects from the tractor.
Autopilot tractor was designed to reduce the time and cost of field work. Previously the farmer had to hire additional workers to care for field. Now it’s all to make one self the tractor. The only thing he needs help the man is unloading grain from the combine. Not yet known the fate of the Canadian farmer. Maybe he will sell his invention to other interested people.
Recall that in recent years, many enthusiasts started developing their autopilot systems. For example, the hacker George Hotz recently received a $3 million investment in the project for development of affordable universal autopilot.
