The Pentagon has signed an agreement with Ukraine on military cooperation
Pentagon chief ash Carter and defense Minister of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak signed the agreement on cooperation in the military sphere, according to Reuters.
It is aimed at improvement of the Ukrainian army, the promotion of defence reforms in Ukraine and strengthening of military-technical cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking to reporters after meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart in London, Carter called the document “very, very important agreement that will help the further development opportunities of Ukraine in the sphere of protection of its territory.
According to the agreement of the agencies, the former commander of the Central command of the U.S. armed forces, retired General John Abizaid is the senior military adviser, who oversees the sphere of military cooperation with Ukraine.
“Abizaid will provide authoritative advice of the Minister Poltorak and other senior Ukrainian officials on the issue of reforms to bring the armed forces of Ukraine in line with Western principles and standards, such as the strengthening of democratic civilian control over the armed forces, the fight against corruption, the transition to NATO are compatible with the structure of the personnel”, — is spoken in the message published on the website of the Pentagon.
