Analyst: US ready to arm Syrian rebels in order to “bleed the Russians”

The US is ready to send to Syria for more weapons to the so-called opposition to put pressure not only on government but also on Russia. About it in exclusive interview to TV channel “Zvezda” said the lecturer, northeastern University of Boston and an expert on terrorism Max Abrams.

According to the analyst, the behavior of the US in Syria will be determined by the outcome of the presidential election. If the Oval office is a Democrat, Hillary Clinton, relations with Russia in the Arab Republic escalates.
“Now there are some talk about sending the rebels with additional arms to exert pressure not only on Assad, but on Russia. This view is more characteristic of the foreign policy camp of Hillary Clinton, but a number of advisers of the highest rank also recommends that the mediated war: to arm the rebels so that they, in fact, bleed out the Russian, the Syrian army and the Iranian militias. Something like this was when USA was arming the Mujahideen in Afghanistan in the 80-ies – some take this practice for a sample,” said Abrams.

The analyst stressed that such a strategy can become a boomerang, creating future terrorists, some of which can choose the goal of the United States. Abrams also drew attention to the fact that the American media almost completely failed to cover the Russian operation in Syria.
“The American public is actually not really imagine the mechanisms of what is happening in Syria, especially the Russian military operations. The American press is almost nothing to say about the Russian anti-terrorist operations. She says only about the victims of the bombing among the civilian population. Frankly, most Americans don’t understand that Russia is liquidating not only the jihadists of the “Islamic state”, but “al-Qaeda””, – he said.
In fact, the expert said, the United States and Russia converge in the desire to do away with ISIS in Syria. But Moscow has a broader understanding of who in Syria is a terrorist. In Washington is looking much more narrowly. When Americans talk about terrorists in Syria, they mean only the “Islamic state” and no one else, says Abrams.
“The United States never really fought, for example with the “Dzhebhat EN-Nusra”, while Russia gave a lot of force against “al-Qaeda”,” he believes.
And although “al-Qaeda” disowned “dzhebhat an-Nusra”, in the ranks of both factions are fighting the same people. According to Abrams, the “Islamic state” has caused many to forget about al Qaeda, however, ISIS “begins to go down”: their bastions in Iraq and Syria weakened, while al-Qaida is in fact growing. Therefore, he concludes, the US should worry about what the future of Syria is connected with “al-Qaeda”, and not “Islamic state”.
Organization “Islamic state”, al-Qaeda and its Syrian branch of “al-Nusra Dzhebhat” is recognized in Russia as a terrorist and banned.
