A U.S. citizen living in new York was accused of financial transactions with illegal money by trading bitcoins. This was reported resource Coindesk citing a U.S. Department of justice.
Defendant Richard Patricks sold illegally mined BTC worth more than $200 000 for the period from August 2014 to December 2015. The Department of justice announced a broader scheme, in which defendant was involved.
The report States the following:
“December 3, 2015 Richard Patricks sold 37 of bitcoins worth about $13 000 the buyer a front in the face of a Federal agent. During the detention, the suspect claimed that the laptop from which a trade was executed, does not belong to him”.
The accused faces up to 10 years in prison.
