This rifle has a rich history. Her owner was the American captain Henry Lawton (Henry Ware Lawton), who was captured in 1886, the military leader of a tribe of Apache Geronimo. Rifle model 1886 with serial number 1 was presented to Lawton for a gift representative of Winchester in recognition of his achievements.
