What Russia will do in the Arctic

Что Россия будет делать в Арктике

On the eve of Dmitry Rogozin, speaking at the conference “International cooperation in the Arctic, new challenges, new vectors of development”, said that Russia will do in the Arctic. According to him, Russia has invested there about 5 trillion rubles until 2030.

According to Vice-Premier Dmitry Rogozin, the government was considering a very large number of projects that can be implemented in the Arctic and selected the 150 most promising. Some of the 150 projects ready to implement today, but there are those that can be realized after some time. Rogozin also stressed that the Russian government will act decisively to thwart any attempts of confrontation in the Arctic because its territory is very much considered as a zone of cooperation and dialogue.

Portfolio of 150 projects was prepared on behalf of the state Commission for development of the Arctic regions by the Ministry of economy and development, together with regional and Federal authorities. Of the 5 trillion rubles, which is planned to invest in the development of the Arctic regions, 4 trillion rubles will have extra-budgetary sources of funding, and another 1 trillion rubles will be allocated from the state budget, according to sources in the Department.

One of the main projects will be the icebreaker with a capacity of 110 MW, which can be operated even in the most demanding situations, said Dmitry Rogozin. Also the Deputy Prime Minister noted that in March 2017 in Arkhangelsk will host a forum called “Arctic – territory of dialogue” and by tradition, it will be attended by the President of the Russian Federation.

We will remind that in September of this year the state Duma has already considered the question of the amount of investment in the Arctic. The Head of Committee on constitutional legislation Vladimir Pligin said about 2 trillion rubles.
