Italian rider of “Astana” Vincenzo Nibali for the second time in his career won the home race.
Before the decisive mountain stage Nibali 44 seconds behind leader of the General standings, Esteban Chavez. Mountains to the penultimate day of the two main contender for victory in the race went in one group, and then Nibali successfully attacked the Colombian.
On the mountain the first category Colle della Lombarda, the Italian has created a 40-second lead, and the final grueling ascent of the third category Nibali managed to increase the advantage and to remove all doubts about the winner of the Giro in 2016.
Dutchman Steven Creswick two days not only lost the pink Jersey, but also a place on the podium at the 20th stage from Krasivka escaped titled Spaniard Alejandro Valverde, perhaps Chavez took second place.
Tomorrow will be the final stage of the 99th version of the Giro d’italia – on the flat stage with finish in Turin will be paying tribute to Vincenzo Nibali, who became a four-time winner three-week mnogodnevok.
