The hallgrímskirkja is a Lutheran Church, erected on top of a hill. 73-meter bell gives it this majestic view, not comparable with any other Church!

The Church Hallgrímskirkja is the fourth tallest building in Iceland. Its construction lasted 38 years, from 1945 to 1986.

Once there, in a remote valley Selardalur (Selárdalur), lived a farmer named Samuel Jonsson. Ceasing to farm, he devoted all the time his true passion — art.

Since the mid-1950s until his death in 1969, he created some amazing sculptures, including a round with the lions, inspired by the postcard from the Alhambra (Spain), which he somehow saw, the Church in the life-size, and other distinctive creations, fashioned out of concrete mixed with sand from the nearby beach.

After his death, the farm and all the creatures of the farmer have been neglected, until it is not the state stepped in, determined to save this special place. Although the art farm located in a remote area, its worth a visit to see these amazing sculptures and stunning scenery.

6. Stone eggs at merry Bay (Eggin í Gleðivík), Djùpivogur (Djupivogur)

34 these huge stone eggs are exact replicas of 34 eggs of birds living in this area.

The art installation was created in 2009. Each egg differs from the others, but together they form a single artistic whole.
