The shooter killed one person and wounded four others.
The Illinois state police confirmed the death of one person and wounded four in a shooting near the campus at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
“At the crime scene was discovered four victims with gunshot wounds. They were taken to local hospitals where one died from his injuries. The three victims were diagnosed with injuries of moderate severity. The fifth victim collided with a vehicle, fleeing from the shooting, and suffered minor injuries,” the statement said local authorities.
Earlier it was reported that unknown persons opened fire from firearms on one of the streets next to the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University warned students about the dangers and recommended to avoid staying in the area of green street and second street in Urbana.
The police on Sunday night blocked part of the streets and urged residents to stay away from the scene. On Sunday morning police in Illinois announced the elimination of anxiety, and noted that the alleged shooter is not on the territory nearby the campus. The search for the attacker continues.
According to eyewitnesses, in the street green street occurred at least five shots.
