Ukrainian performers urge MPs not to force them to sing in “mauvais”

The desire of the Ministry of culture of Ukraine to impose radio quotas in 75% of songs in Ukrainian local performers called the “populist step” and “ineffective”.

More than 50 Ukrainian artists condemned the initiative of the Minister of culture of Ukraine Vyacheslav Kirilenko on establishing quotas on the rotation of Ukrainian authors and performers in exchange of not less than 75% of the total content on radio and TV. This was reported on the website of the Ukrainian “Independent Association of broadcasters”.

“Ukrainian musicians believe that the proposal of the Minister of populist step that tries to divide Ukrainians by language and works against the unity in the society. The musicians encourage the authors of the bill to withdraw it, and lawmakers not to support the document during the voting”, — said in the article.

According to the Association of broadcasters, among the musicians who spoke strongly against the additional quota in ethers of radio stations – Svetlana Loboda, Irina Bilyk, Tina King, Vitaly Kozlovsky, the Lama group, “Boombox”, and Susanna Jamaludinova, which will present Ukraine at competition “Eurovision 2016”.

“We understand that the motivation for the introduction of such regulation is to protect the national cultural space (of Ukraine) but have to say that the chosen methods support national music are ineffective. The distribution of Ukrainian authors and artists on friends and foes, right and wrong is wrong and may cause contention, while Ukraine requires maximum consolidation”, — quotes the Association of the words of the leader of the band “Boombox” Andrei Khlyvnyuk.

Ukrainian authorities from June of 2015 to limit broadcast of Russian films and music. In particular, under the ban hit movies and TV series, in which positively portrayed the work of employees of power structures of Russia and all of film and serial production, produced in Russia after 2014. Currently, the Ministry of culture of Ukraine took the initiative to set mandatory quotas for the broadcasting of Ukrainian music industry in the amount of not less than 75% of the total volume of ether.
