The panel of the world trade organization upheld the European Union in connection with the entered Russia restrictions on the importation of pork, pork products and live pigs. About it on Friday reports a press-service of the international organization.

In the opinion of the arbitrators, these restrictions are not based on the standards of the OIE and therefore do not meet the requirements of the organization relating to sanitary measures.

The panel did not agree with the adoption of the EU transparency measures with the Russian Federation, since Brussels did not provide sufficient evidence.

At the end of January 2014 Federal service for veterinary and phytosanitary surveillance banned to guarantee the security of deliveries to Russia of pork products from European countries was registered in Lithuania outbreak of African swine fever. In mid-February, another hotbed of African swine fever was detected in Poland.

The EU called the ban disproportionate, in connection with than in April of the same year sent a request to the WTO with a request to form an expert group to settle the dispute.

On Friday, the arbitrators of the world trade organization noted that Brussels has provided the required evidence that within the EU was a zone not infected with African swine fever, in connection with the Russian ban on import from all European countries was recognized to be contrary to the WTO agreements.

In this regard, the panel recommended that the Russian Federation allow action against imports of pork products from Europe into line with WTO procedures. Adopted by the arbitrators after the decision, the parties have 60 days to appeal.
