The USS cracked when passing through the Panama canal

Военный корабль США треснул при проходе через Панамский канал

The U.S. Navy ship LCS-6 USS Montgomery received damage to the body when passing through the Panama canal. About this informed the official representative of the 3rd fleet of the U.S. Navy captain Ryan Perry.

Montgomery, in his words, “was under the control of local pilots” provided by the Administration of the Panama canal, when faced with the wall of the gateway. This has led to the emergence of holes in the housing size of 18 inches (about half a meter).

“The crack is located at a height of 8-10 feet above the waterline, will not lead to the ingress of water and does not threaten the stability of the ship,” said Perry.

The incident occurred on October 29 when the ship was followed to his home port in San Diego (CA). Now he continues on his way and will arrive in port in November.

This is the third incident with Montgomery since it was commissioned in early September. The thirteenth of September, the crew found two faults: the seawater in the hydraulic cooling system and failure of gas turbine engine.

The fourth of October due to a malfunction in the engine of the ship was taken in tow off the coast of Florida because of concerns about the hurricane “Matthew”.

In September, the newest U.S. Navy destroyer USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000), which costs 4 billion dollars couldn’t go swimming because of the leak.

A leak was discovered in one of the redundant systems of the ship, designed to enable them to continue to carry out their tasks, receiving damage or breakage. However then it was noted that this is a normal phenomenon, given that the first U.S. destroyer, this class does only passed the test exercises and run-in.
