Any modern moviegoer knows that the car was flooded with sequels, prequels, remakes, spin-offs. All of this includes the term “franchise” – and despite the fact that their dominance in the global film industry is no doubt still there were no stars out, which would reflect the success of franchise in the Russian hire. “The film is About” decided to explore what franchise today – top box office in Russia and in the world.

The same can be said about the franchise. The difference is clearer with an example: say three “spider-Man” with Tobey Maguire and two “spider-Man” with Andrew Garfield is one franchise, one brand. But we cannot say that these five films tell a story that is not solid chinoserie. On the contrary, the coincidence of the key characters and some storylines emphasizes that it is a similar story told differently. In one franchise, so you can log multiple chinoserie. And if the main attribute of the franchise – a brand, of the series – the story of unity, set in the framework of the brand. The confusion arises when mixing criteria for the economic and artistic.
FRANCHISE IN RUSSIA, THE USA AND THE WORLD: COMMON AND DIFFERENCES
In the rankings of highest-grossing franchises of Russia and the world match five points out of ten. This is a significant proportion, especially considering that a direct comparison of these tops is incorrect. This does not mean that the US and other markets the same franchise do not become blockbusters, but today they find themselves at best in the top 20. Thus, in this industry, the Russian film industry to a lesser extent following the global trends; the specificity of addiction to animation emphasizes the fact that in third place on fees – domestic “giant” series of Studio “the Mill”, a record which is not hampered by the lack of Hollywood budgets.
VARIETIES OF FRANCHISES
The easiest precedent – when kinoseriya and franchise match. In other words, all the films in the franchise to tell a story and to remakes and other ways to update brand it has not yet reached. The linear narrative is used in modern franchises less – profitable to develop not only “far” and “in breadth”. The fashion for so-called “kynoselen” gave birth to Marvel studios – and it was followed by “Star wars” (in addition to the new trilogy, several spin-offs), kenogamissi DC, and then you can join and “transformers” (followed by another sequel planned films about individual characters, which should expand the horizons of the franchise). Kind of kynoselen became animation “the giant” series – the films of Studio “Mill” about Alyosha Popovich, Dobrynya Nikitich, Ilya Muromets and their joint adventure. Among kynoselen near future – the project of Universal studios, which will bring together famous monsters: Dracula, the invisible Man, the Mummy, the Wolf Man. Tested Marvel scheme, first, each of them will get a solo movie, and then they will come together in one blockbuster. Pioneer will be the “Mummy” with Tom cruise, which will be released in 2017.
If kinosalona plan seems overly ambitious, with the franchise coming spin-offs. The approach in this case is simple: of the characters of the series is chosen the audience’s favorite, worthy of a separate full meter, and a new film being touted at the same time as the latest part of the franchise and as a temporary departure from the main line. If it will succeed, this single branch can become self-kinoseriya under the franchise, as it is planned with “Dadula” and has already happened with “Wolverine”.
From superhero franchises, with the exception of Marvel, a recipe for success: constant “reboots” or remakes. When exhausted the potential of a single idea, you can start anew. The power of brands in superhero movies today is that they can get through a bad incarnation and to change beyond recognition. “Batman,” “Batman returns,” “Batman forever,” “Batman and Robin” are very different from the trilogy of Christopher Nolan about the Dark knight – however, they all go under the name “Batman”. “Batman and Robin” “buried” hero for eight years, but that didn’t stop the film “Batman begins” to revive the franchise with a new force in 2005. Similarly, “spider-Man” “X-Men”, who a few years ago, “rebooted” with a new cast, once the situation has ceased to satisfy the audience (“spider-Man” managed to do it again – now the hero has become part of kynoselen Marvel). Update by a regular “reset” takes place and the “bond” – every few movies changing the lead actor, and the franchise is the only benefit. 54 years on the screens 25 films – and the next part will definitely have with Daniel Craig.

Global success requires the development – of all franchises-leaders mentioned in our rankings, can be considered completed only three: “the Hunger games” “Twilight” and “middle earth”, combining Lord of the rings” and “Hobbit” by Peter Jackson.
