The state Duma refused to ban their relatives to do business

Депутаты Госдумы отказались запретить своим родственникам заниматься бизнесом

The state Duma rejected in the first reading a bill that restricts the ability to do business for the relatives of parliamentarians. On Tuesday, may 10, reported to the Tape.<url>” the author of the bill, the Chairman of the Duma Committee on constitutional legislation and state construction Vadim Soloviev (CPRF).

“My bill has gained 146 votes, and the rest, about 280, against”, — said the Deputy.

The document directly prohibits close relatives of parliamentarians to engage in commercial activities. The ban applies to those MPs who hold the posts of Chairman of the chamber or his deputies, and also head the commissions or committees in the Federation Council and the state Duma. For these categories of MPs were supposed to be deprived of authority in case of violation.

The bill was designed to eliminate conflicts of interest in the work of parliamentarians, the authors of the document. “Under the conflict of interest is a situation in which personal interest of a member of the Federation Council or the Deputy of the State Duma can affect the proper, objective and impartial performance of his official duties”, — stated in the explanatory Memorandum to the bill.

In the beginning of 2016 in the state Duma, there have been several draft laws restricting the right of doing business for relatives of civil servants. The initiative was put forward by deputies from the CPRF and the LDPR, but the results were rejected by the lower house of Parliament.
