Ljubljana is ready to deepen political and economic cooperation with Moscow. As reported TASS, this was stated by the President of Slovenia Borut Pahor
“Slovenians in dealing with the Russians never had a negative experience. We see no reasons that would cease to exist mutual sympathy. In the context of disagreements on some issues of world politics between the European Union and the Russian Federation it is especially important to maintain a dialogue,” said Pahor. According to him, the forthcoming visit to Slovenia of Russian President Vladimir Putin will have a comprehensive impact on the deepening political and economic cooperation between the two countries. “I next year are going to make a visit to the Russian Federation to sign and there is a large package of documents,” added Pahor.
The President noted that “Slovenia, above all, wants to maintain good relations with all four countries with which it borders, from here originates the foreign and European policy of the Republic.” “Even the most complex issues, for example, with Croatia, we try to resolve through peace agreements,” he stressed.
As for the future of the EU, Pahor sees it further strengthen ties between member countries. “I think the new EU will be more closely linked, maybe someday is my personal opinion – the EU will become a Federal government – however, it is in the distant future – and will have its own security system, – said the President. – Until that happens, it is essential that its role was played by NATO.”
Pahor also said that Slovenia is a safe country, there is an open society, characterized by tolerance and hospitality. And the Russians are welcome at the resorts.
