The population of Russia does not believe the news about the economy, the reality is much worse

The population of Russia is increasingly do not trust messages of mass media about the economic situation in the country. More than half of citizens believe that the press gives biased data and almost every second person said that the economic situation is much worse than reported by the media. This is evidenced by the results of research of Fund “Public opinion” (FOM).

According to the results of a survey conducted on 8-9 October among 1,500 people in 104 localities from 53 regions of the Russian Federation from August 2015, the proportion of citizens who don’t trust the media, up 10% from 41% to 51%, whereas the number of those who will trust in the media decreased to 40% compared with 47% a year earlier, reports “Interfax”.

Sociologists have noticed that 46% of the respondents accuse media of bias in the coverage of the situation in the Russian economy. The opposite view is held by a third (32%) of survey participants, and one in five (21%) were undecided.

However, 61% of respondents believe that TV, radio and Newspapers provide an incomplete picture of the situation in the economy. According to 46% of respondents, the economic situation in the country worse than it is reported.

Only 28% called the economic information in the media relevant, and only 7% believe that the media exaggerates, but in fact the economic situation is better.

Pollsters also asked whether the Russians over ruble. Negatively answered 56% of the respondents have a positive – 43%. According to 68% of respondents, the fluctuations of the ruble in one way or another affect their life.

Speaking about the impact of the ruble on the economy, 52% of survey participants said about the benefits of the growth rate of the national currency, 17% think it best to decline. A third of respondents (31%) were unable to formulate its position on this issue.

It is noteworthy that, according to sociologists from the public opinion Foundation, over the past year the demand for information about the economic situation in the country has fallen. Currently, the news in the economy “carefully, trying not to miss anything”, keep 30% of Russians, while a year earlier, in August 2015, the figure was 42%. While about 62% today accept such information without special attention (in 2015 – 54%).
