Douglas Slocombe was born on 10 February 1913 in London. His career as a cameraman began with comedies. Just on account of his nearly 80 works, including “Promise her anything” (1965), “dance of the vampires” (1967), “Robbery” (1967), “the Italian job” (1969), “Jesus Christ superstar” (1973), “Nijinsky” (1980), a film about James bond “Never say never” (1983).
He also removed the picture “Indiana Jones: raiders of the lost ark” (1981), “Indiana Jones and the temple of doom” (1984), “Indiana Jones and the last crusade” (1989). This part of the Saga was the last work of Slocombe.
The operator was nominated for the award “Oscar” for the film “Travels with my aunt” (1973), “Julia” (1977) and “Indiana Jones: raiders of the lost ark”. Moreover, Slocombe is the winner of the award “BAFTA” for the movies “the Servant” (1963), “the Great Gatsby” (1974) and “Julia” and the winner of the British society of cameramen.
In 2008, Slocombe was awarded the order of the British Empire.
