The last Lenin mainland Ukraine

Последний Ленин материковой Украины

If you don’t count the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk regions, on the territory of Ukraine of other monuments to Lenin is no more. And this event from the category of those who speak about: the end of an era. You just think what it is! Indeed, in the previous 90 years without monuments to Lenin in our life it was impossible to imagine. They were everywhere. In any major city in several pieces, each village probably had its own Lenin. There might not be electricity and gas, but Lenin had to stand.

Though the bust in the office of Chairman of the village Council. Thousands of monuments, hundreds of thousands of portraits, hundreds of plaques, millions hung on all the corners of the banners and quotes. And now on mainland Ukraine none of this would be? Of course, this is the end of an era. The end of the Communist era at least at the level of symbols. Although the brains of the Soviet era will go as long as radiation from Chernobyl. But I think that Ukrainians do simultaneously right and wrong. Right because Lenin was the founder of one of the most disgusting, bloody and cynical regimes in human history. The presence of Lenin, sticking a hand somewhere in the void is a real mockery of the millions who perished because of this ideology. But on the other hand, I would have done with the monuments differently. Lenin monuments are monuments of history. Whatever it was, but it was. The Communists demolished the monuments, churches and other symbols of the old time. We are better than, if we do the same? Just because Lenin was unconditional, from our point of view, the villain? Well, the Bolsheviks never doubted that kings and priests are the villains. So what to do? Demolish every one of the monuments or nor to touch any? Leave everything as it is impossible.

Of course, those “Lenin”, which is stamped as consumer goods in factories, which were ugly and marvelous, keep it makes no sense. This aesthetic and historical waste. But there are monuments, not without some artistic merit, monuments to its history. They, incidentally, are not many, for sure. These let stand. But are not just. Since they are the monuments of the era, about that era to say. Let is that Lenin, with his cap, but the monument is sure to be written, what mode it was created and what the victim has suffered because of this regime, our people. Those who do not know about, maybe take a look at the monument and think about something. But Ukraine has decided that the Pro Soviet regime she’s going to tell its citizens without visual AIDS of bronze and granite. But when and how its citizens will tell about this are we? For us, Lenin is the Imperial mark. A sign of nostalgia for the Soviet Union. And condemning the demolition of monuments, we do not fight for Lenin and his bright image. We fight for the memory of a country that no one but us is not a pity.
