In contrast to the widely used technology of introduction of alien genome to an existing organism, technology and CRISPR Cas-9 with the help of special proteins allow you to make changes at the DNA level in the cells of the body. They can detect a given DNA sequence in the human body, remove it and replace with a new chain developed by the genetic engineers, reports RT with reference to the scientific journal Nature.
Scientists believe that by using CRISPR will be able to avoid further transmission and spread of degenerative diseases at the gene level. However, the national intelligence the United States believes that these technologies can be used not only for medical purposes.
“Given the widespread, low cost, and the accelerated pace of development of this technology is dual-use, it deliberate or accidental misuse can lead to serious consequences for the economic and national security of the USA”, – stated in the report of the Clapper, published on the official website of his Department dni.gov.
According to the report, this conclusion was made based on the information and projections provided by the CIA, NSA and other U.S. intelligence agencies.
