ЕС рассматривает возможность введения новых санкций против РоссииAdditional measures of political pressure can be imposed because of Russia’s military action in Syria.

The authorities of several European countries are considering imposing new sanctions against Moscow. The basis for entering additional measures of political pressure became Russia’s military actions in Syria, in particular the bombing of the city of Aleppo.

It is primarily about personal sanctions against 12 Russians, but it is not clear who exactly they will affect – the number of senior officers in the Russian army or people from the entourage of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said the Financial Times.

The initiators of the new sanctions supported by the UK, France and Germany, writes the FT, citing a senior European diplomats. To the decision came into force, it must be accepted by all EU members.

Previously, several German politicians, as well as the Swedish foreign Minister and the British foreign Secretary urged to exert pressure on Russia through sanctions.

Tensions between Russia and Western countries has increased dramatically after the violation of agreements on a truce in Syria between Moscow and Washington in September 2016. Russian and Syrian planes began an intense bombardment of the Eastern districts of Aleppo, which hold the militants fighting against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
