The EU and Canada signed a free trade agreement

The signing ceremony of the agreement on the FTA was held amid protests at the headquarters of the EU institutions, opposing the free trade zone and fearing the adoption of such agreements with the United States, the so-called Transatlantic trade and investment partnership (TTIP).

Document development and approval which took seven years, was almost derailed by his refusal to accept by the Belgian Walloon region.

The agreement on free trade zone between the EU and Canada removes 99% of customs duties in mutual trade. Canada is the 12th largest partner of the EU on imports, the 13th – exports. Agreement yet to be ratified by the parliaments of Canada and member countries of the EU.
